MOVIES: SALT is a real action-thriller spy movie (movie review by a sleeper spy blogger)
Angelina Jolie is back in an action movie and we can see her here in the latest movie called "SALT", a spy action-thriller movie that will make you believe that this story can happen in the real world that spy are here living as ordinary citizens and later on be activated to be an assassin and hide back in the shadow. SALT movie is another new word for spy characters and it can match the word for BOND and BOURNE. I have seen the movie this evening at the Columbia Pictures Philippines premiere and thanks again for inviting me and this blog entry is my movie review, so check out for more below.
the movie
When I saw the movie trailer few months back, I began to think that this is another spy movie and Angelina Jolie will have a love interest and she will have a revenge for making her a spy and killer, like activating her brain to be a hot headed spy and didn't like what she's doing, but then all of my expectations are not correct and didn't match in the main story of the movie. After a few step forward and reading production news and interviews, I just realized that this movie is not a fiction based film, and it can happen in real life, as I heard that it ties in on something that a Russian spy was caught in the U.S.. Being a sleeper spy is the most mysterious case ever in the world, and it is real and as of now they are still here with us waiting for a signal to attack. The concept of the film is good and it is hard to think of a good way to connect it in recent events or history, but if you are familiar with some other spy movies, then you are on the right track and can understand more on what's going on.
The movie moves so fast and the action sequence are breath taking, the story is very unpredictable and the characters are so few and you can follow all of their roles in the story. The problem that I saw in the movie is that the camera is very shaky on some of the scenes, but it was just one scene and I'm glad that it never occurs in other important action scenes. The car chase, the gun battle, the running, and the explosion is great and Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt is now the next popular code name for females who wants to be in an action film.
I give a standing ovation to director Philip Noyce and writer Kurt Wimmer for creating SALT for us.
the characters
Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) - I love her acting and she is so hot in here, she kicks and punches everyone and later on shoot them with a pistol gun. Her character in the 1st scene as a CIA officer with a blonde hair is hot and sexy for me, maybe the mini skit thing do the tricks and changes her character into a smart, brave, strong member of the CIA group, but later on changing her character into a Russian spy changes her whole character, this will make you think what will be the next plan, is she a hero or a villain?
Ted Winter (Liev Schreiver) - I find it weird for me that I still think of him as Sabretooth in this film, one of the trusted friend and collegue of Salt. His presence in some scenes is very important, so keep an eye of him.
Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor) - most stressful character in this film, the guy shoots and chases Salt through out the entire movie. There are funny scenes that he always shouts "shit, shit, shit". I like his role and there is a mysterious part where Salt and Peabody have a personal confrontation to each other. Peabody is something for Salt, so watch him too.
I really like to talk about the other characters, but these 3 are the most important in the film, you need to focus on them if you plan to watch Salt.
the review
what can I say here?, its an Angelina Jolie film and everything a movie that it has Angelina in it is good. The story is great even that the movie runs at around 1 1/2 or maybe less than 2 hours they did tell the story in order with out skipping any loop holes, the mini flashbacks really helps in telling the backside of some situations. The action is crazy for a female star, but Angelina is a perfect actress for any action film and I'm voting for SALT 2 and upcoming spin off, maybe a prequel can work out, because I'm curious on something on what she's doing in N.Korea in the 1st part of the movie. SALT is the best spy movie ever after James Bond and okay let's add Austin Powers. But SALT is a serious film and it can show the power of women over men.
for my rate, I'll give it a 4 / 5
kung umabot sya ng 2 hours or more, baka gawin ko perfect 5.
but I feel that there will be a SALT 2 in the coming years. so let's wait again for another sleeper spy to wake up near us.
SALT is showing on July 28,2010 in all Philippine cinemas
