Review: Sigma F80 (SS197)

I thought I'd already reviewed this, but I had apparently only done so on my YouTube channel.

The Sigma F80 (previously SS197) is available from Sigma Makeup (affiliate link) for $16.00.

I bought this brush after seeing huge hype about it on some blogs. While there had been some huge hype over the first set of brushes they released, I'd found them pretty good, but I wasn't getting excited over it! I eventually cracked and paid the $16.00 for it after seeing a couple of reviews from bloggers and YouTubers that I trusted.

I can't remember how much postage I paid, but this brush came about 2 weeks after I ordered it. I don't think postage was excessive, I've certainly got no notes here saying it cost too much!

I'm really glad I did order it! It has become my usual brush for applying liquid foundation. I know others use it for powder, but I've found that it applies far too much when I've tried it that way and it offers a heavier coverage for liquid foundations than most other brushes that I've tried.

This is a very dense, synthetic flat topped brush.

See how packed the top of it is?

It's also the softest face brush I have ever come across! It just feels so smooth on the skin. I buff in liquid foundation with this brush, so I certainly don't want any scratchy feeling at all. I can't remember that it's over lost more than one or two fibres in the entire time that I've had it.

I use this brush to stipple on liquid foundation, then go over an buff. This gives a very smooth, even coverage of foundation that it applied a little heavier than with other foundation brushes. Maybe I'd go as far as saying it will give the "airbrushed" effect. But then I've never had my foundation airbrushed so I have nothing to compare it to.

Cleaning is easy enough, as it's synthetic I've found that the fibres don't absorb too much of the foundation. A good going over with gentle shampoo then MAC brush cleanser usually takes it all off. I've found that I do need the shampoo with this brush, maybe because it's just so dense and foundation can get a little oily at times. I usually let it dry overnight. It takes a little longer than other flat top brushes I have to dry simply because it is so dense.

While I have had brushes provided by Sigma in the past, I bought this one myself. This post does contain an affiliate link which will earn me some money if you do decide to purchase anything from Sigma.
