Galerien Wochenende in Berlin

On Wearing Polka Dots

Polka dots - you probably either love 'em or hate 'em, but anyone can wear them. This perennial print has a tendency to look juvenile if not done right, though. Here are a few tips for wearing dots without looking too "dotty".

- Mix it up. This dress works because it uses two different sizes of dots. With this mix, the print avoids becoming overwhelming.
- Add solid color accessories. The solid black belt breaks up the dots and adds just the right touch. And guess where your eye is drawn? To your tiny waist.

- Smaller dots work better for dressier styles. The bow blouse at left would look silly in larger dots.
- Or break up polka dots with solids to tone it down. The green dotted dress would be far too much without the white vest worn over it.

- Wear dots in spring and summer. Somehow, polka dots just work better in warmer weather. They're bright and cheery and they send off a more casual vibe.
- Think color! Dots don't have to be white. Orange on purple works great for a casual summer shift. Pink on yellow makes a great swimsuit. Stick with two colors, though, to avoid looking clownish.

All fashions made from McCall's patterns in 1964.

To Print or Not to Print

Were you thinking about having your bridesmaids wear printed dresses? Before you have them buy your favorite patterned dress, think about your photographs.

Sure, a printed dress looks great on a hanger, but next to five other girls with accessories and bouquets, things could start getting cluttered and take the attention off of yourself and the groom. Check out these pictures for a better idea:

Instead, try pairing your solid color dresses with fun colored heels or other accessories. Your bridesmaid’s will still look beautiful, and your pictures will focus right where you want them to, on you!

Wedding Table Decoration Idea

decorations can be the highlight of your wedding theme, or can be a complementary alternative.

Here are some ideas to help you plan your ideas:

1. For dimmer venues, use tealight candles in little glass boxes, to be placed along side each table setting.

2. Large clear glass bowls filled with sand and floating candles make a great centerpiece. 3. Sprinkle rose petals on tables for a romantic touch.

If you are having an informal wedding, simple white porcelain plates with gold or silver edges are good.

4. Simple and plain dining ware deserves a more extravagant centerpiece.

5. Wrap chairs with organza ribbons in dark shades of ivory or gold, and use table napkins of the same color. Tie alternating styles of flowers on each chair for some variety, and use simple matte gold plates. For the centerpiece, use a lilac and ivory combination for flowers and candles.

6. For something different, use a square table, and square plates. Choose one color and work around lighter shades of it for the table settings. For example, ice blue table cloths to go to with ice blue ribbons around the chairs. Table napkins come in a shade or two lighter, and leave the plates white for some contrast.

7. Instead of using just one vase with flowers, mix them up by placing more of smaller vases with colorful flowers as a centerpiece.

8. For a minimal look, use clear glass plates with white and silver accents. For the centerpiece, a large clear glass vase with long stems of flower buds in it, instead of a bunch of leaves and open flowers. Use brown place mats with white plates, and use deep red cloth to drape the chairs and tables. Deep blue accents can be placed in the table napkins and colors of the flowers.

9. Depending on the color of your theme, fill the centerpiece bowl with fruits matching the theme to give a variety in texture.

10. Use raspberry and gold for a refreshing table theme. Place the flowers on the perimeter of another centerpiece of short red candles. Use matte gold plates and blush pink table napkins and chair drapers.

Wedding Reception Table Decorations

There are lots of ways to decorate your wedding reception tables with flowers, favors, candles, plants, fabric and place card holders. Floral arrangements are a very popular way to decorate the tables at your wedding reception. For an outdoor wedding, use flowers and greenery in pots to decorate the tables. Use candles alongside flower arrangements to give an evening reception a beautiful glow. Add candles for an elegant look.

Place flower pot pens in bunches at tables in lieu of flowers. Use fabric as a table runner. Use themed place card holders to display place cards. At a garden wedding, use Victorian-style tea light place card holders for an elegant table display.

For a spring wedding, use floral favors in the décor. These daisy votive holders and daisy candle favors offer a fresh spring feel to your wedding reception tables. For a summer wedding, add coconut candles to the tables for a tropical, luau theme. Mix the coconut candles with these palm tree candles to complete the luau look.

An autumn wedding calls for a warm palette of color. Use bright red and yellow table runners with these autumn leaf place card holders. Use these fall-colored boxes with brown or gold bows filled with Jordan almonds to decorate the guest book table. Arrange the place cards for the table around the tree. Create a winter wonderland scene on your wedding reception tables with these snowmen candles.

Is there a mac eye pigment in Brass?

While going through my Stat Counter profile, I noticed a hit from a search for "Is there a mac eye pigment in Brass?".

So today, I will introduce you to one of my most precious and rare items in my collection. Brass pigment is long, long discontinued. I noticed it popping up on ebay, but I've never actually seen a real pigment. Anyone who can sell 20 of them is selling fakes. This is an extremely rare pigment. I only have 1/8tsp left in my sample jar so I use it sparingly.

The quality of this pigment is like nothing MAC currently has out. That collection recently with the heavier pigments (what was its name?), it had colours such as Heritage Rouge. Some of those came close to the texture and pigmentation of this.

As for a colour description? Metallic Brass.

Behold!

I will be a sad Make Up Addict on the day this runs out.

Mac Cosmetics Double Dazzle Review and Swatches

Mac Cosmetics Double Dazzle Review and Swatches. I adore the look of Mac Dazzleglasses, shimmery colors that make your pout pop. Each shade is truly unique and different and if you think you've seen the color before just try it on your lips and trust me you haven't seen anything like a dazzleglass. If you're dying to get anything from the collection there is no rush since many of the colors expect Goldyrocks, Stop! Look!, and Utterly Posh are permanent.

My Swatches and Review
I picked up only 5 shades from the collection. Making sure to get Goldyrocks since it was permanent.

From Left To Right Swatches of
Goldyrocks, Rags to Richies, Date Night, Get Rich Quick, Love Alert,

My Thoughts: As you can see from the bottles Date Night was my favorite, I swear it's almost gone :(. Luckly it permanent so I can always order another one. Get Rich Quick is perfect if you love browns and neutral shades along with Goldyrocks. Love Alert is a bright red color that looks super fab while Rags to Richies is a pretty pinky tone. Love it! The glasses are a bit sticky but most lipglosses are. They look great paired with your favorite lipstick or worn alone.

Food for Thought!

Were you thinking of using a family friend or new small local business to cater your wedding?

Think again!

Even though you may save money using one of these outlets, your reception will not have the same quality as it would if you had a professional wedding caterer. When hiring any vendor for your wedding, make sure they have wedding experience because it’s completely different from any other celebration.

The caterer needs to be able to adhere to the strict timeline and work quickly and efficiently so the guests are never wondering why it is taking so long to get a glass of water or their next course of the meal. It’s important to have the very best service on your special day!!

Here are some questions you should ask before hiring a caterer:

1. Have they ever catered a wedding before? (sounds like a stupid question, but you will be surprised…)

2. What is their price range? Are costs itemized depending on the foods you choose, or is there an all-inclusive flat rate? What would that include (linens, tax, gratuities, etc.)? Does the caterer have printed price sheets for food selections?

3. Will the caterer provide tables, chairs, plates, table linens, silverware, salt-and-pepper shakers, and more? Ask to see these items to make sure they're acceptable. Do you have to rent tables, place settings, and/or other equipment or will they arrange for the rentals?

4. Who is the main contact? Will the same person you work with when planning also oversee meal service on the day of the party? (You want this to be the case.) And what will their role me that day, will they be a server or supervisor!

5. Is the caterer working any other events or parties on the same weekend, on the same day, or at the same time as yours? (You want to be sure they will devote sufficient attention to you. You may want to pass on a smaller outfit who indicates they have another job or two scheduled for that day.)

6. Will the caterer provide wait staff? If so, what will they be wearing? Have those servers EVER served before?

7. Will the caterer be willing to include a recipe you provide, like a special family dish, or an appetizer with some sort of sentimental significance? Can they prepare vegetarian or kosher meals for some of your guests if needed?

8. Where will the food be prepared? Are there on-site facilities, or do you, the caterer, and the site manager need to make additional arrangements? If the caterer must bring in his or her own equipment, is there an additional fee?

9. Does the caterer have a license? (This means the business has met health department standards and has liability insurance -- make sure this includes a liquor license if you're having a bar.)

10. Can the caterer provide alcohol? Or can you handle the bar separately? If you can provide it, is there a corkage fee? How and when do you get the alcohol to the caterer?

I am not saying that a brand new caterer is not hire-able, but I want you to know what you are getting into, everyone has to start someone, and having a game plan is a great place to start!

Lurve Magazine bei Wood Wood

lurve magazine @ wood woodcredit: zana bayne

Maison Martin Margiela introduces its concepts of interior architecture through an installation, ‘Mat, Satiné, Brilliant’, which recreates the environment and atmosphere of its interior design workshop using a variety of creative expressions of the Maison’s identity and philosophy.

Ann Fleischer Silk Ribbon Fashions

Ann Fleischer designed exquisite dresses, suits, and ensembles from silk and rayon ribbon that was either crocheted, knitted, or woven completely by hand. The dress shown above, in an ad for Neiman Marcus, dates to 1955 and was handknit of silk organza ribbon. Saks Fifth Avenue offered a complete collection of Fleischer suits and dresses in 1964 which sold for $275.00 - $350.00 (about $1937.00 to $2500.00 in today's dollar). If Saks didn't have the color you wanted, you could have a suit or dress custom made for you. By the late 1960's Fleischer was offering men's ties.

Not labeled Fleischer, but still an excellent example of woven ribbonwork, this 1940's suit is available at Couture Allure for $135.00.
