Bobbi Brown Holiday Modern Classic Lip & Eye Palette

A few holiday sets are trickling in stores and Bobbi Brown's first round of holiday palettes are stunning. The one that caught my eye was her new Modern Classic Lip & Eye Palette ($75) which contains 10 different eyeshadows and 4 lip glosses. I found this at Nordstrom but don't know if other counters have these yet. I assume very soon if you haven't spotted them recently.

This comes in a similar size to her Chrome Palette from last year, but the colors in this palette are so much better. The shadows are to die for and come in matte, shimmer wash, metallic finishes. They are all soft and easy to blend with excellent pigment. I only wish she would release more singles instead of palettes. The lipglosses are very sheer but will look stunning over other lipsticks.

  • Regulars/Mattes: Ivory, Birch, Navy Charcoal (although this has slight sparkle), Espresso
  • Shimmer Washes: Antique Pink, Quarry, Heather Rose
  • Metallics: Oyster Grey, Taffeta, Gold Thread

The glosses (first three from the left are glitters):

Overall stunning and absolutely gorgeous. The shades were all swatched without any base or moisturizer so you can imagine how much better they will look when used over a proper base. The swatches simply cannot do these justice. Definitely a winner and a must have, even with the high price tag. It's extremely versatile and you'll get a lot of different looks using this palette.

The other eyeshadow and lip palettes were also to die for. I'm just waiting for another event/gwp which I believe will happen soon at Neimans.

September Favorites

As Fall is most definitely creeping in, I have to look at my September favorites with some regrets, as most were used during my vacation in Italy and are very hard to wear now that I'm back up North. So this month's favorites were all Summery and I'm a bit nostalgic...

  • First of all, a skincare product: Avene Cleanance Moisturizer, which is full of AHA and BHA - it keeps my skin bright, clear and smooth.
  • Of course, between the burning sun and the Cleanance, I needed a high SPF: Avene SPF50 Mineral Milk - which is one of the few 100% physical sun barriers available on the market. It's also slightly tinted so it won't leave a white cast on your skin.
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer: almost made me forget how much I love foundation! I didn't wear anything else during my whole vacation, even for fancy evenings out!
  • Givenchy Les Frangipaniers Prisme Visage in Island Ten: I reviewed it a couple of days ago and it's truly a product I have used every day in September
  • Nars smudgeproof eyeshadow base: still definitely my favorite and works great even under the warm weather.

  • MUFE Aquacreams (picture borrowed from the lovely Amy at Cafe Makeup): so easy to wear and to combine, and they have such a great pigmentation. I have been wearing #2 (greyish taupe), 15 (taupe, see picture) and 11 (gold) the most!

  • Chanel Joue Contraste in Pink Explosion: this blush came out with the Fall collection. I would never have believed that I would ever a) buy a Chanel blush and b) like a bright pink blush so much, as I mostly wear peach or pinky peach as not to enhance the redness on my cheeks. However this blush is very pigmented, long lasting, blends like a charm and the color is really wearable and gives a natural flush. I am totally in love with it.

What were your favorites in September?

MAC Bad Fairy Giveaway Contest! *CLOSED*

Outdoors, no flash. Rainy overcast day. 1x Essie First Base,
3x MAC Bad Fairy
Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I've been sick (still am, horrible fever). But I do have a treat for you! On my way to the doctor's office, I stopped at Nordstrom and picked up two bottles of MAC Bad Fairy, from the new Villainous Villains collection that hit stores today (was online on Tuesday). Now, this polish is already sold out online, and there's been some buzz online about it so it seems to be rather popular!
The other two nail lacquers in this collection, Formidable! and Mean and Green are exact dupes of Orly Galaxy Girl and Space Cadet, respectively. I was eager to get Bad Fairy because I loved Space Cadet and Galaxy girl so much, (the foil like duochrome is quite stunning) and that seemed to be the unique one in the bunch.
Bad Fairy is a magenta/orange duochrome, very sparkly. The closer you get to a light source, the more orange it appears, a rather lovely effect.
My brush is kinda wonky though, there's one hair going in a completely weird directly, and the other hairs aren't as tightly bound as I like. For a $13 polish (the first polish I've paid over $10 for), I'm rather annoyed.
I apologize that my pics aren't that great today, I let my cuticles go to crap since I've been sick.
Indoors, close to light source. Told you my cuticles went to hell!
Here's the best part, I bought one for me and one for you, one lucky reader!

Contest Rules:
One lucky reader will receive a brand new MAC Bad Fairy lacquer.
This contest is open to all readers, even international ones, ages 18 and over.
To enter, all you have to do is be a follower on Google Friend Connect and leave a comment on this post with your email address in the space provided (won't be shared, I'll only contact you if you win) and answer one question:
Of the four Disney villains featured in MAC's Villainous Villain collection, which one is your favorite? Or do you prefer a villain that isn't featured?
I myself wish that Jafar from Aladdin was featured, he always looked like he rimmed his eyes with kohl!
For an additional entry you can:
- Follow me on Twitter and retweet the following: "RT @MUWithdrawal- Enter to win MAC Bad Fairy Polish! http://bit.ly/d8XZ8K "  Leave me a link to your tweet!

This contest ends October 22nd, 10 PM EST. If after 3 days, the winner doesn't email me back, I'll redo the drawing (via Random.org).

Good luck!

My new favorite powders: 2 Givenchy Prisme Visage

I have to warn you in advance: one of the products I'm going to write about was a limited edition and isn't available anymore (unless you can find a counter where they still have left-overs from the Summer collection in the back drawers). But don't worry, the other one is in store right now.

At the end of August, I impulse bought the Givenchy Prisme Visage Les Frangipaniers. Don't ask me why, I have no idea, I need another bronzer like I need a hole in the head.
I think I got trapped into thinking it would disappear for ever soon, since it was limited edition, and I was trying to keep Summer from leaving... So I bought it in the shade 2, Island Tan. Shade 1, meant for pale skins, was actually very pink and not appealing to me.

I was really impressed with this product as soon as I tried it!
First of all, it smells delicious! The smell of Frangipani flowers, actually, which is very present in one of my perfumes, Kenzo Amour.
The compact is very well conceived: it has a mirror and under the powder there's a little drawer that contains a large flat brush (that I have actually used when travelling, and it does the job when you don't have anything else handy) .
This product is actually not a bronzer at all, it's a face powder, and I'm tempted to call it a Beauty Powder since it gives a nice subtle glow to the face - I have had lots of compliments on how luminous I looked while wearing this.
I have been wearing it a lot, applied lightly all over the face with my EcoTools powder brush, which is wide and fluffy. Then I put some more in the hollows of my cheeks for a slight bronzing effect, before applying blush. Very pretty.

It's a good thing I was happy about this purchase because this little pretty thing costs no less than 42€ -48USD!
In spite of the price, when the weather started to change and I felt I couldn't wear this color anymore, I felt the need to find a Fall/Winter equivalent to it! So I headed to the Givenchy counter and found this:

It's called the Blooming Prisme Visage, and it's part of the Fall collection.

It works exactly like the Frangipanier one does: same packaging, same application technique, same beautyfying effect - same price, unfortunately. Only the fragrance is slightly different.
Again the lightest shade is very pink and looked almost white on me, I was afraid it would look ashy so I picked the shade 02 Apricot (which is the one on top on the picture).

I'm as happy with this purchase as with the previous one.
Yes, it's an expensive powder but not the kind you use to set concealer or blot your t-zone - just a light dusting all over your face is enough, which means this product will last you a very long time.

This really got me into thinking that Givenchy is most definitely underrated and underhyped, at least for this type of product (haven't had the best experience with the eyeshadow prisms though). Is there anything from this range that you particularly like?

Color Club Untamed Luxury Collection: Nothing But Truffle

1x Essie First Base, 2x Nothing But Truffle
This is a pretty simple polish, a dark brown shimmer. When the light hits it right, if you're very careful you can see a slight variation in the shimmer, a little bit of golden hues and also a slight hint of magenta. (I swear, nobody stares more intently at polishes than me, I'm clearly obsessed with a lot of spare time on my hands).
A very neat, chic color whose name makes me suddenly hungry for Godiva truffles.

Do you like brown polishes? Or do you prefer brights on your finger tips?

Product was purchased by me, for my own use.
